Douglas Martin

Callum and Douglas after Cowal 2008

I started my early playing career at the age of 7, taking my first pair of tenor sticks from a gentleman called Robert Mathieson. Moving on quickly from that I decided that I only wanted to play tenor drum with the Band so I could follow by Father Pipe Major Bob Martin and my brother Fraser Martin to the competitions.

Playing with the Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band Novice Juvenile band, I played with them until 1978 when I joined the Grade 2 Band of Boghall and Bathgate Under the direction of Pipe Major Bob Martin and Drum Major Tom Brown. The band went on to win just about every major championship in Grade 2 over the next two years.

In 1980 I progressed with the band into Grade 1 and winning the Cowal Championships and winning the Worlds Drum Corps in 1981 and every other title that was to be had.

I now play with Torphichen and Bathgate Pipe Band with Callum & Julie bringing all my experience from all those years to the drum corps and now teaching innovative and exciting flourishing and rudimental work for the complete bass section for today’s pipe band.

I have had the pleasure of playing with the Torphichen and Bathgate Drum Corps and winning the following titles

  • 2008 Champion of Champions Drum Corps
  • 2008 British Champion Drum Corps
  • 2008 World Champion Drum Corps
  • 2007 European Champion Drum Corps
  • 2007 Scottish Champion Drum Corps
  • 2006 World Champion Drum Corps and Bass Section
  • 2005 Champion of Champions Drum Corps
  • 2005 Scottish Champion Drum Corps
