The products produced by Alba Percussion were all produced as we believed that they all could add value to drum corps.  Of course there are many choices already available regarding sticks, pads, harnesses and other drumming supplies so why bother to create even more products, well every product we’ve created come from real everyday needs that we’ve experienced in our years of drumming.

Pads

We found through the years that most people used as practice pad purely as a method of practising quietly at home.  The reality is the many of the practice pads available on the market actually do nothing in terms of improving the technique used on the drum as the surfaces are so different. So rather than simply design another practice pad, our aim was to design a pad which would improve fingering and drumming technique by using a realistic rubber.  We searched and tested literally dozens of types of rubber before we found one we were happy with.

As you will see, our pad is designed as an oval shape making it is easy to play on your legs either in the house, at the band or on the bus to a competition.

Sticks - Mark II

These sticks were specially designed by Callum.  Slightly longer and thinner than any other stick currently on the market, these allow you to get your fingers right around the stick giving better control.  In playing for years Callum could never find a stick suitable to his style of playing and fingering technique so decided to create his own.  These sticks also come tapered on the end to provide excellent balance through a stick which is evenly weighted front and back.

Through teaching youngsters within the Torphichen corps we’ve also found that younger players still developing can easily get their fingers around our sticks versus other sticks on the market.

All our sticks come perfectly matched and anyone is welcome to come to our workshop and hand pick their sticks either for their own or corps use. Please contact us in advance.

Tenor Sticks

Our tenor sticks are available in 3 different weights / head sizes as well as many colours.

For the bass tenor we use a heavier foam layer of 25mm, a lighter foam layer for the alto tenor of 6mm and a normal foam layer of 12mm for regular tenor.

Our most popular colours include black, white, blue, navy, red, green and yellow.  If you have any special requirements then please contact us for further information.

Drum Key

After many years of removing the standard supplied bolts on our drums and changing to hex bolts this meant carrying a drum key for tuning height and tension as well as a hex key for tightening. Many corps use a similar technique due to the stronger torque of the hex bolts on the top skin, but the downside was always too many tools required.  So like all our products our drum key was designed to fulfil a very simply need, standard drum key on one side, flip it around and you have hex bolts on the other side, all on a single drum key and no more carrying multiple tools for drum tuning.

Bass Harness

Our bass harness was designed for one of our bass drummers and was one of the first products we created. Like many bass drummers, ours suffered from a bad back.  Our harness was created from aluminium which made an overall lighter harness with a perspex belly plate. The aluminium also allows the harness to be easily bend over the shoulder section to suit the individual.

Music Book

The latest edition to our product family was created purely through the demand of people asking for a copy of the scores played by Torphichen and Bathgate Pipes Band.

Our first book, A4 in size comprises a selection of scores played from the 2003 season when the Callum and Julie joined the band at the request of with PM Gordon Stafford through to the 2006 season.

Included in the book are all the side drum scores which earned Torphichen and Bathgate Drum Corps the Champion of Champions status in Grade 2 in 2005 and the World Championship title in 2006 consisting of a selection of marches, airs, jigs, strathspeys, hornpipes and reels.

Many of the drum scores played on the Torphichen and Bathgate Pipe Band CD - The Curse of Uluru also feature in our book.
